Privacy policy

The short version: Acrux Studio is a desktop application that runs on your computer. It captures and processes your screen, camera, microphone, and audio locally, on your device. Acrux Studio sends no analytics or telemetry unless you switch it on, and section 4a lists exactly what that switch sends. Your video and audio go only where you send them: to the streaming services you connect, to recording files you save on your own disk, and to YouTube, TikTok or Discord when you post a clip there yourself. Clips never pass through us. An optional Acrux account holds a Pro subscription and an encrypted backup of your settings and scenes (sections 4b and 4c). This website itself uses only privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics (aggregate visits and referrers), never your personal data.

This policy explains how the Acrux Studio desktop application ("Acrux Studio", "we", "us") handles your information. It applies to the Acrux Studio app for Windows and to this website (acruxapp.stream). By using Acrux Studio or the site you agree to this policy.

1. What Acrux Studio accesses on your device

To do its job as a streaming and recording tool, Acrux Studio accesses the following on your computer, with your direction:

Screen and window capture: the displays or application windows you add as sources.
Camera: any webcam you add as a source.
Microphone: microphones you enable in the audio mixer.
System and per-application audio: desktop audio and the audio of specific apps you choose to capture.

All of this is captured, mixed, and processed on your device. It is never sent to Acrux Studio. Acrux Studio only accesses these sources while you have them active in a scene.

2. Where your data goes

Your live video/audio	Only to the streaming destinations you configure and start (e.g. Twitch, Kick, YouTube, TikTok), sent directly from your device to that service.
Recordings	Saved as files in the folder you choose, on your own disk. A recording or clip leaves your computer only when you post or share it: to YouTube or TikTok (sent directly from your device to that service, sections 3a and 3b), or to a Discord webhook you set up. It is never sent to us.
Scenes, settings, preferences	Stored locally on your device (e.g. `%APPDATA%\Acrux` on Windows). If you sign in to an Acrux account, an encrypted backup of them is also kept on our server (section 4c).

3. Connected accounts (Twitch, Kick, YouTube, TikTok)

When you connect a streaming or chat account, you sign in through that platform's own official sign-in page. Acrux Studio never sees or stores your password. The platform returns an access token, which Acrux Studio stores locally on your device and uses to act on your behalf: connecting to chat, starting your stream, performing moderation you initiate, or posting a clip you choose. That token is sent only to the platform it belongs to. Our small token service (oauth.acruxapp.stream) completes the sign-in handshake and renews expired tokens: it passes the platform's answer straight back to your device and does not store or log tokens or account details. Sign-in tokens are never part of a backup. You can disconnect an account in Settings, Connect at any time, which removes the stored sign-in from your device.

3a. Google user data (YouTube)

When you connect a YouTube account, Acrux Studio uses YouTube API Services to act on your behalf. This section explains exactly what Google user data Acrux Studio touches, how long it is kept, and how to delete it.

What Acrux Studio accesses: your YouTube channel's id and name (to show which account is connected), your channel's live stream ingest key (so you can go live without copying it by hand), and your live broadcast settings and live chat when you use those features. When you post a clip, Acrux Studio uploads that video to your channel with the title, description, visibility, made-for-kids answer and cover image you chose, and if you cancel an upload it deletes the unfinished video it created. Acrux Studio requests this through Google's official consent screen and never sees your password.
Where it is stored: on your device only. Your Google access token, refresh token, channel name, and stream key are stored locally in Acrux Studio's settings (%APPDATA%\Acrux on Windows). None of your Google user data leaves your device except to Google, and none of it is part of a backup. Our token service completes the sign-in handshake with Google, forwards the response to your device and does not store or log your tokens or any other Google user data.
How long it is kept (retention): only for as long as you keep the account connected. Acrux Studio keeps your Google user data on your device so the connection keeps working between sessions, and for no other purpose. There is no server-side copy to retain.
How to delete it: sign out of YouTube in Acrux Studio's Settings, which immediately and permanently deletes the stored tokens, channel details, and fetched stream key from your device. Uninstalling Acrux Studio (or deleting the %APPDATA%\Acrux folder) removes all locally stored data as well. Videos you posted live on YouTube and are managed or deleted there. You can additionally revoke Acrux Studio's access from your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, which invalidates the tokens on Google's side.

Acrux Studio's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Acrux Studio does not use Google user data for advertising, does not sell it, does not transfer it to third parties except to provide the features you use, and does not use it to train AI or machine learning models. By using the YouTube features you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

3b. TikTok user data

When you connect a TikTok account, Acrux Studio uses TikTok's Login Kit and Content Posting API to act on your behalf. This section explains what TikTok data Acrux Studio touches, how long it is kept, and how to delete it.

What Acrux Studio accesses: your TikTok display name and account identifier, to show which account is connected. When you post a clip, Acrux Studio reads your posting options fresh from TikTok each time (your nickname, who you can post to, whether comments, duets and stitches are allowed, and the longest video you can post) and shows them to you.
What Acrux Studio sends to TikTok: only the clip you choose, uploaded directly from your device. With Send to your TikTok inbox, only the video file is sent and you finish the post in the TikTok app. With Post now, the caption, visibility, interaction settings, commercial-content disclosure and cover frame you chose are sent with it. Your clip is not sent until you press the button.
Where it is stored: on your device only. Your TikTok access token, refresh token, display name and account identifier are stored in Acrux Studio's settings (%APPDATA%\Acrux on Windows). Acrux Studio keeps no record of your posts beyond a line in its local log file noting the upload's status. None of your TikTok data is part of a backup, and none of it is stored on our servers. Our token service completes the sign-in handshake with TikTok and does not store or log your tokens or account details.
How long it is kept (retention): only for as long as you keep the account connected, so the connection keeps working between sessions.
How to delete it: disconnect TikTok in Acrux Studio's Settings, Connect, which immediately deletes the stored tokens, display name and account identifier from your device. You can also remove Acrux Studio's access from the app permissions in your TikTok account settings, which invalidates the tokens on TikTok's side. Videos you posted live on TikTok and are managed or deleted there.

Acrux Studio does not use TikTok data for advertising, does not sell it, does not share it with anyone except TikTok to provide the feature you use, and does not use it to train AI or machine learning models. Using the TikTok features is also subject to the TikTok Terms of Service, and TikTok's handling of your data is described in the TikTok Privacy Policy.

4. Chat

If you connect a chat account, Acrux Studio connects directly to that platform's chat service using your account and displays messages within the app (and in your broadcast only if you add a chat source to a scene). Chat content is handled by the platform. Acrux Studio keeps a log of chat messages from Twitch, Kick and YouTube on your device for 30 days, so a clip can show the chat that happened during it. Older messages are deleted automatically. The log is never sent to us or kept on any server.

4a. Optional crash reports

First-run setup asks whether you want to Share crash reports, and the same switch lives in Settings, App. It is off unless you turn it on. While it is on, the app sends one small report per session to our server (entitlements.acruxapp.stream, hosted on Cloudflare). The report contains:

App version and Windows build.
Hardware: CPU model and thread count, memory size, graphics cards (model, driver version, video memory), monitor resolutions and refresh rates.
How the engine ran: which video encoder path was used, whether a fallback fired, the audio devices opened and their formats, bitrate adjustments and GPU-memory pressure events, crash counts.
Which features were in use: kinds of sources in your scenes, whether the replay buffer, per-app audio or virtual camera were on, which streaming platforms were connected, your role (streamer or recorder), session length.
A random installation id, and the country Cloudflare derives from the connection (the IP address itself is not stored).

It never contains stream titles, chat messages, viewer numbers, file paths, window names, or any captured media. If you are signed in to an Acrux account while the switch is on, the report is linked to that account so we can look up your machine when you ask for support. If you are not signed in, the report is filed under the random installation id only and cannot be traced back to you. Copy diagnostics in the app shows that id, so you can quote it if you want us to look. Switching it off stops the reports immediately. Reports are deleted after 180 days, and deleting your account (section 4b) deletes every report linked to it right away.

4b. Acrux account and Pro subscription

Signing in with Google creates an Acrux account. We store the account identifier Google gives us, your display name and verified email address, how many times you have signed in, when you first had Pro and whether you paid the founding price. For each device signed in we store the computer's name, the app version and Windows build, when it was last seen, and the country Cloudflare derives from the connection (never the IP address). A device unused for 90 days is signed out and its record removed. Your Google profile picture is shown in the app but not stored by us. Payments are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. We store the status and renewal dates of your subscription, never card details. The account also holds your backups (section 4c). You can delete the account from Settings, Account at any time once the subscription is not active, which removes all of the above, your backups, and any diagnostics reports linked to it.

4c. Backups of your settings and scenes

While you are signed in to an Acrux account, each computer backs up its own setup to the account, so a new or reinstalled machine can start from it. This happens automatically a few seconds after you change a setting or a scene, and only when something changed. Each machine can stop its own backups with Back up this machine in Settings, Account (signing out stops them too). Backups already on the account stay until you delete them.

What a backup contains: your settings (stream info and destinations, output, audio and its processing, hotkeys, appearance and similar preferences, but never your YouTube broadcast description) and your scenes: their names, layout and sources, including the text of text sources and the web addresses of browser sources. It never contains passwords, sign-in tokens or stream keys. Anything tied to one machine is stripped out: the windows, screens, cameras, apps and files you picked.
How it is protected: every backup is encrypted on our server (AES-256-GCM) with a key specific to your account, and the server refuses to store one it cannot encrypt. If you set a backup password in Settings, Account, backups are encrypted on your computer before they are sent, so we cannot read them at all. We keep only locked copies of that key, one opened by your password and one by your recovery key.
What we can see: each machine's name, operating system, app version and when it last backed up. Without a backup password, also a short summary (how many scenes, sources, hotkeys and audio chains) so the restore list can describe each backup.
How long it is kept: each machine keeps its newest backup, up to two older ones (a new one is started at most once a day) and a snapshot taken just before a restore. Backups do not expire on their own. Delete a machine's backups in Settings, Account, or delete your account to remove them all.

Requests to our servers pass through Cloudflare, which keeps short-lived operational logs, as any website host does.

5. What we do not do

We do not collect your streams, recordings, clips or chat. Clips you post go straight from your computer to the service you pick.
We do not send diagnostics unless you switch them on (section 4a). Otherwise the app contacts our servers only to check for updates and whether the founding price is still open (neither sends anything about you), and, while you are signed in, for your account, subscription and backups. (The website's privacy-friendly analytics are described in section 8.)
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone.
We do not access your captured media for any purpose other than producing the stream/recording you have set up.

6. Third-party services

When you stream, chat, or sign in to a third-party platform through Acrux Studio, your use of that platform is governed by its privacy policy, not this one. Examples include Twitch, Kick, YouTube/Google, TikTok, Discord (when you share a clip to a Discord webhook), and Lemon Squeezy (payments). If you install Acrux Studio from the Microsoft Store, your acquisition of the app is also subject to Microsoft's privacy statement.

7. Data security

Because Acrux Studio keeps most of your data on your own device, its security depends largely on your computer's security. Sign-in tokens are stored in Acrux Studio's settings file inside your user folder, protected by your operating system's user account (they are not separately encrypted). Backups on our server are encrypted as described in section 4c. We recommend keeping your OS and Acrux Studio up to date.

8. This website

This site (acruxapp.stream) is a static website hosted on Cloudflare. It uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand basic traffic, which pages are viewed and where visitors arrive from, in aggregate. This is privacy-friendly by design: it sets no cookies, does not fingerprint you, and does not collect or store data that identifies you personally. We use it only to see which pages and referral sources are working, never to build a profile of any individual. The site sets no advertising or tracking cookies of its own.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change how Acrux Studio handles data, we will update this page and revise the "last updated" date. If a future version of Acrux Studio introduces another feature that sends data off your device, we will describe it here before it ships.
